FAQ

How do I know it’s time for a new bed?

What are the different types of mattresses?

How is a memory foam bed different than an innerspring bed?

There is no “best” mattress. Each person has individual needs and levels of comfort. The best mattress today is the one that provides your body with the best support, comfort and space.

Mattress manufacturers design and engineer various coil systems and comfort layers of foam to the mattress so it will conform to natural curves of your body and to keep the spine in alignment when you lay down. Pay close attention to how your hips and shoulders feel while taking a rest test.

Another important feature is good perimeter edge support. This feature allows maximum sleeping surface all the way to the edge of the mattress and a more comfortable seating edge.

A well-designed mattress is an investment in your overall wellness that costs just pennies a night over the life of the product.

When buying a new mattress you are buying three major components:

  • The upholstery layers (the layers of padding on top for comfort).
  • The innerspring coil unit.
  • The box spring or foundation.

The upholstery layers are the comfort layers in the mattress. Mattress manufactures have found that adding more and better quality of comfort layers of foam will give you a more comfortable sleeping surface and a longer life span for your mattress.

The different layers in mattresses can be man made foams or natural fibers. There are many different types of foams. Every bed can have approximately 3-8 layers of padding and each layer can be a different material. Wool, cashmere, silk, visco memory foam, and latex foam are more commonly known and usually mean a better quality padding, but keep in mind that there are different grades of each of these different materials, which can affect the price.

Surface comfort is subjective and basically sells itself.

The innerspring coil unit is the base of the mattress. It allows even distribution of your body weight while you sleep. The innerspring is steel so it will hold its strength for many years. The coils are what support your body in places where you need it most.

A box spring or foundation is an important part of the sleep system. A mattress and box springs are designed, tested and proven to work together. It’s not the mattress alone, but the total sleep set that is designed to provide to provide proper support, especially for the new non-flip mattresses.¬†Most sleep sets are designed to work with a particular style box spring or foundation. A proper foundation or box spring will properly support your mattress and improve the overall durability of your sleep set.

When buying a new mattress set, it might also be the time to consider the size of the bed you are now sleeping on and consider whether there is enough sleeping space.

Discovering mattress value: It’s what’s inside that counts when shopping for a mattress, the design and quality of the components inside the mattress are what makes it feel and perform properly. Determining what’s right for you is simple. Find the features that deliver the most benefits within budget. Compare the quality of the support systems as well as the comfort materials (the foams and fabrics).
